NAME Welcome
Welcome
to the web-site of the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.
As the spring semester winds down we wish our students good luck for their
examinations.
Congratulations to the students of the Marine Design class for their
project presentations. About 120 guests and members of the SNAME Gulf Coast
Section attended the presentations at UNO's Alumni Center.
The graduating students are looking forward to a rewarding career in the
marine industry and we hope they stay in touch.
It was our pleasure to serve them.
Prospective new students and interested parents should study the information available
with the Undergraduate Program menu item. Specific questions may be directed to
our undergraduate program advisor Dr. Birk.
Prospective graduate and PhD students should read the info in the
Graduate Program section and contact our Chair
Dr. Vorus. We still have several open positions for graduate assistants.
The School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering at the University of New
Orleans was established in 1980 on demand by the local shipbuilding and offshore
industry.
Since then the School of NAME has provided the marine industry with well educated
graduates and supports its progress through basic and applied research.
UNO offers the Bachelor of Science in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering (NAME),
Master of Science in Engineering and the Ph.D in Engineering and Applied Science.
Our graduates are on high demand and find positions usually well before their actual
graduation in a wide range of marine enterprises including ship and yacht builders,
offshore companies, engineering and design consultants, software developers and others.
The UNO Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering curriculum is accredited by the
Accrediting Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).
